The Barbie Issue!

Hello Fashionistas! Welcome to the Dreamhouse! Wishing all of us the best, since yesterday was Women's day! So this post couldn't be more feminine...Today it's my favorite doll's birthday... Barbie is becoming 57 and the hashtag #BarbieBirthdayBash has gone viral. Happy B-day B. I love you! Barbie must be one of the most controversial toys of all time... When Barbara Millicent Roberts was first introduced to the public, by Ruth Handler in March 9, 1959 at the American International Toy Fair there was a variety of reactions. Since then Barbie has built an empire of toys, dolls, accessories, books, movies etc. Many have blamed her for promoting an unhealthy image for little girls to follow. It's true, Barbie is really thin, very tall and beautiful, but isn't that what dolls are supposed to be after all? In my opinion Barbie gave little girls a chance to dream, a chance to try to be something they couldn't be until then... You see she has been an astronaut, a soldier, a doctor, a politician, a lawyer and many other proffessions that were considered ''male'' at the time! In all of her movies, she is portrayed as a good student, sweet, who always has something nice to say and who is always fighting for the right thing. In my book, that's a good role model. So yes, for me, Barbie was a breakthrough! I grew up playing with her and I've always considered myself a Barbie Girl, but I would never do plastic surgery to look like her or dye my hair blonde or starve to death to have her figure... As for today's outfits, since her signature color is pink, they are both pink and All Dolled Up!

Hello Fashionistas! Καλώς ήρθατε στο Dreamhouse! Χρόνια πολλά σε όλες μας για τη χθεσινή Ημέρα της Γυναίκας! Οπότε το σημερινό post δεν θα μπορούσε να είναι λιγότερο θηλυκό... Απόψε είναι τα γενέθλια της αγαπημένης μου κούκλας... H Barbie κλείνει τα 57 της χρόνια και το hashtag #BarbieBirthdayBash έχει γίνει viral. Χρόνια σου πολλά B. Σ'αγαπώ! Η συγκεκριμένη κούκλα πρέπει να είναι ένα από τα πιο αμφιλεγόμενα παιχνίδια όλων των εποχών... Όταν η Barbara Millicent Roberts συστήθηκε στο κοινό μέσω της Ruth Handler, στις 9 Μαρτίου του 1959 στο American International Toy Fair, προκάλεσε ποικίλες αντιδράσεις. Από τότε η Barbie έχει μετατραπεί σε αυτοκρατορία αποτελούμενη από παιχνίδια, κούκλες, αξεσουάρ, βιβλία, ταινίες κλπ. Πολλοί την έχουν κατηγορήσει ως μη υγιεινό πρότυπο για τα μικρά κορίτσια. Είναι αλήθεια πως είναι πολύ αδύνατη, πολύ ψηλή και όμορφη, αλλά κάπως έτσι δεν είναι οι κούκλες? Κατά την άποψή μου η Barbie έδωσε την ευκαιρία στα κορίτσια να ονειρευτούν και να γίνουν κάτι που μέχρι τότε δεν μπορούσαν... Βλέπετε έχει υπάρξει αστροναύτης, γιατρός, δικηγόρος, στρατιώτης, πολιτικός και πολλά άλλα επαγγέλματα που εκείνη την εποχή θεωρούνταν καθαρά ανδρικά! Σε όλες της τις ταινίες παρουσιάζεται ως καλή μαθήτρια, γλυκιά που έχει πάντα ένα καλό λόγο να πει και που πάντα προσπαθεί να κάνει το σωστό. Για τα δικά μου δεδομένα αυτό είναι ένα καλό πρότυπο. Οπότε ναι θεωρώ τη Barbie ένα Breakthrough! Mεγάλωσα παίζοντας μαζί της, αλλά δεν θα έκανα ποτέ πλαστική για να της μοιάσω ούτε θα έβαφα τα μαλλιά μου ξανθά, ούτε θα έκανα εξαντλητικές δίαιτες για να αποκτήσω τη σιλουέτα της... Όσο για τα σημερινά outfits είναι και τα δύο ροζ, μιας και είναι το χαρακτηριστικό της χρώμα και πολύ κουκλίστικα!
